What to Expect at Your First Lesson
Hey everyone! For those of you following me, you probably have already taken your first lesson and it may have been what seems like ages ago! But I bet you have a friend, family member or acquaintance that may be interested in dance lessons but are nervous about taking the leap. This article is meant to give insight on what to expect even before stepping inside the studio and help calm any anxieties.
1. Expect to be nervous.
Ballroom dancing can make one feel vulnerable because no one wants to look stupid or fall on their tushes. As instructors we are here to help you succeed and we ultimately just want to share in those successes. Every single one of us, including your instructor, at one time had no idea how to dance. But with instruction, practice (just like learning a new language or instrument) and not giving up, you'll see what just a few lessons will do to your confidence level!
2. Expect to make mistakes.
Mistakes are how we learn! Yes, it may be tough but the success afterwards is so worth it. We are all human begins. We all make mistakes. That's how we get better.
3. Expect to have fun.
Yep. You read right. You're going to be able to listen to some great music, meet others who have been in your same position as a newbie and learn an entirely new skill that you'll be able to take with you for the rest of your life.
4. Expect to get out of your comfort zone.
No one got anywhere they wanted to without getting out of their comfort level and pushing themselves to try new things. Instead of asking yourself, what's the worst that could happen? Ask yourself what's the best that could happen? You may just surprise yourself.
5. Expect to get addicted.
Dancing is a fun way to get out of the every day hustle and bustle of life and just enjoy good music, good company and move! There's a reason so many of our students have been doing this for years or even decades. It's addicting! There's always something new to learn and when there's 15+ different dances to choose from, there's something for everybody!
Have fun and happy dancing!
